October Is a Tuesday… or Actually, Maybe, It’s a Wednesday
Somewhere between accepting our fate on Tuesday and looking ahead on Wednesday, we begin to realize that not everything about this season feels light.

Now that we have established that September is a Monday, naturally October would be a Tuesday… except, when it’s actually a Wednesday. Now before we get too annoyed about the indecision there, let's not forget that the majority of October is Libra season- so that kind of tracks.
In maintaining the symbolism from astrology- the balance scale does remind us that in October we are now in the midst of recouping the emotional balance September knocked out of us.
Every year September takes us by surprise even though we know it’s coming, every year, same time, same place. While the Tuesday energy has us lagging a bit because the week is still in the beginning stages, it also allows for us to accept our fate. It’s here, the week is underway, it’s happening! And the only way out is through.
So now we are in full Fall mode, the foliage starts hitting its peak, beautiful changing colors throughout the Northeast and beyond- but also throughout the further southern states as well. If you could not squeeze apple picking into your September plans- never fear, we can combine them with the pumpkin patches now!
Yes, Monday is scary, but it’s now Spooky season- the fun kind! Haunted houses, candy, thriller movies, pumpkin carving, and hikes through different trails.
Yes, there are some storms, and some hurricane-type weather to be on the alert of, but this time of year is when the best fashion is on the scene (ok Libra again with the aesthetics!). Sure, most fashion weeks take place the month prior, but the Fall aesthetic doesn’t start to fully take shape until October is in full swing- the cute boots, the cardigans (hey therapists!), the various layers we can take off throughout the day… because the mornings are borderline freezing but the afternoons remind us of late summer weather.
The days are getting shorter, but they still hold on for dear life providing us the perfect crisp weather.
October can also be heavy. Somewhere between accepting our fate on Tuesday and looking ahead on Wednesday, we begin to realize that not everything about this season feels light.
Many observances take place which all deserve their moment (domestic violence, breast cancer, disability employment, adhd, hispanic heritage, italian heritage, filipino heritage- so many experiences and identities- just to name a few!). If you are one of the many people who have more intense and depressive reactions to fall and winter, this is usually the time when that transition starts to become more noticeable.
It's uncanny that one of the observances is Depression Awareness Month.
While the changing leaves and cooler weather can feel exciting for some, for others they can signal the beginning of a more difficult time of the year. The picturesque views from the wonderful hikes remind us that we may look fabulous outwardly, but deep down our leaves are preparing to fall. Looking ahead also means knowing a shedding is about to take place and that can be seen as an opportunity, or as dread for the inevitable.
While the previous month knocked us out of balance- this month is about deciding how we will find it again and executing it accordingly. There’s also the anticipation of what’s to come- the more intense holiday season is approaching. October reflections give us an opportunity to notice where we’re still looking for that equilibrium.
And just like that- Tuesday starts to feel a bit more like Wednesday. Because we’re not quite at the weekend, but we are now far enough into the week to start seeing it more clearly. Except the weekend is more than just that- ‘tis the most beautiful time of the year (only… not always). Depending on who you ask, Mariah coming out of her icebox can be a source of excitement, or complete dread.
Neither experience is wrong; they’re just opposite each other and can exist at the same time.
So while October can feel a little ambiguous throughout, there’s room for it all. The excitement, the dread, the beauty, the heaviness, the sunsets, and the storms. We don’t have to choose one experience over another just because they are on opposite ends of the spectrum.
We’ve survived Monday, and Tuesday and Wednesday are well under way.
But don’t forget- hump day is a total vibe!
