You click into the telehealth waiting room with your boss’ voice still womp-womping in your ears.
The, wait before you go where’s my sweater
not that one the blue one
not that one the sky blue one,
still hanging in the air.
The, when will you be done
be home
be here
text alert still vibrating in your purse your pocket your palm.
You do not have the time, you think,
this is not the time, there is never time
to transition to turn off to turn inward to attempt reflection to tune in to some deeper anything
you don’t have the energy to deep dive or shallow dip
you haven’t even remembered to drink water since the middle of last night when you woke up sweaty and parched.
You just remembered the sky blue sweater is in the car is in the dryer is still on the train.
The whatever to be defrosted for dinner is still in the freezer.
You didn’t send that email. Or that one.
Dropping in to your body
in to a virtual session
in to a physical office
onto an out-of-pocket paid-for couch
might as well be dropping out of a plane at this point in your day your week your season your life.
But do it.
Drop
and land.
Even if land feels like crash.
Even if land feels like collapse.
Even if land is one foot here and one foot in one hundred distant theres.
By any means (mostly) necessary
by the skin of (unbrushed if that’s how the day went) teeth
by appointment
take the time make the time steal the time salvage the time spare the time
to touch down to ground to land in you for you with you
if you have to go from meeting to meeting to meeting needs and feeding and finding and grinding and gritting and fitting-in and figuring-out you might as well do one more one millionth thing for the one on your list that’s left last most often, struck through, unchecked, and it will feel scattered sometimes and distracted sometimes and distracting sometimes and superfluous sometimes and you’ll ask yourself sometimes
is this worth it is this working am I--
Land.
